Why are people weird

I don’t understand people at all some days. Last night I came home from leave, and was picked up by a guy who is like a subordinate to me, but also shares the same rank. You’d get it if you were in the military, whatever I don’t give a shit. Accompanying him was another subordinate of mine, very much a private. I had no idea he was coming along to pick me up, I guess he just wanted to say hi, I don’t fuckin know he’s a weird private. Whatever, I don’t give a fuck.

Anyways, on the ride home I was casually making small talk with them, pretty basic stuff. Neither of them went on leave, so naturally, I asked how was garrison while everyone was away? And I got a pretty basic answer.

“Yeah, it was fine. Not very exciting.”

So I responded, “That’s good. Glad y’all could at least relax.”

The one driving, my peer/subordinate responded, “Yeah, we did have to mow the grass on Monday though. It’s annoying it’s already grown back too.”

I didn’t think anything of it as my true subordinate affirmed from the back seat. I didn’t think much of it at all, I don’t give a fuck.

This morning, I went outside to check my car. Those morherfuckers didn’t mow the lawn. It most certainly did not grow back that fast. This shits straight up a jungle outside our battalion.

And the truth is, I DO NOT GIVE A FUCK. In the military, I am the equivalent of a middle level manager, I don’t care! This is not a big issue, worst case, my team will get unlucky and be assigned to mow the lawn on Monday or Tuesday when work picks back up. No, what really gets me annoyed is the fucking lie. I am not an asshole. Ever since I returned from overseas, I have made it my mission to be as laid back as possible, not just to be nice, but again, because I DO NOT GIVE A FUCK.

So why, WHY do my subordinates think I’m gonna give a fuck about the lawn? I’ve never punished them for anything unreasonable. It’s not like, they specifically were in charge of the battalion’s lawn over leave, there was like a hundred people who stayed back and were under the command of like 2 or 3 people who were in charge of things like that. I understand, and I truly don’t give a fuck. And this all loops back to my initial statement. I don’t understand people. I really don’t. Probably never will. Whatever.
