Home, Hearth, and Kin

The last affection was the easiest, as I was already committed.

I make no introductions, as none are needed.

Not a glance over my shoulder, my courage can only last so long.

To leave home is both liberating and shameful. That I can say in truth.

Marching onwards I go. Arrogant as a peacock.

There’s nobody left that I can leave behind, farewell is only doctrine.

A child cries into his mother’s arms. I cannot look away.

Impossibly, a lonely tear materializes. Who could that belong to?

We’ll drink for you! We’ll meet again!

Spit on the ground of this accursed place!

You and I both know that we cannot tell lies.

Preach when brain and heart finally concur. And still, betrayal stems from the eyes.

Looking forward, do not look back! For that’s where the devil lays!

Burn and break! You must escape!

Reminiscent of the circus, a horrific beast paces for its time.

All at the cost of one’s dignity?
