A Tree Falls in the Forest

Does is make a sound?

All you had to be was there.

Sorry to reiterate.

But you don’t have to watch, or hold its hand, or even be listening for it. All you have to be is around to hear the sound. You don’t even have to care, not really. You just need to be standing, or pissing, or humping in a tent near by.

All you have to be is there! You don’t have to like it. You can’t actively swat at gnats and pout. Just fucking be there. Whether you showed up, or were dragged out, or were lost.

All you have to be is there.

All you have to be is there.

If a tree falls in the forest. If a photon travels between to slits.

All you have to be is there.

Maybe it will be an almighty crash. Maybe the truck will catch flames from lightning and burn from within until the top collapses. Maybe it will be quite the site. Maybe it’ll just slunk off in wet mud with a soft thunk.

Just be there. Just be there for it.

Hate it, love it, whatever.

Everything will happen without you anyway. But if God wants the question answered all he will do is put you there. Self evident. The tree makes a noise. The one for you, and the thousands they fell silent. With no one.

The fall is a call. The sound is the answer.

The same entity is both the questioner and the respondee. Crash!

isn’t that all you want! You, a tree in the woods. The wind and storm come. The night is long and lonely. And you will fall. Will you make a sound? Wouldn’t it be nice if someone was there to hear it. Whether a scream or a whimper. Whether a song or a panic. Just to have it witnessed. Wouldn’t that be enough?

Is it really so hard to be there?
