Week 1: Optimism

A beat-up pull bar rests the door of my bathroom. I pass under it everyday, yet in the last year I found myself using it less and less. My workouts have focused on the lower body through hiking, running, and biking with my upper body an afterthought, maybe getting a few arm sets in at gym.

Like many adventures of mine, this idea was born out of an idle nonconsequential musing. On the way into work, i thought myself, ‘it would be cool to be able to do 100 pull ups’ followed by ‘I would hurt myself if i treid to do 100 pullups today’ then ‘How could I be able do 100 pull ups in a day?’. I let my mind run with the idea during the routine mundanity of my commute. By the time i walked in the front door of my office, the crude shape of caheelge had taken form. A test of my strength and discipline for no real reason.

The Challenge to be completed daily:

30 Air Squats

20 Pushups

10 Pull ups

5 Burpees

Increasing by 10 each week to a max of 100 each (5 to 50 for the burpees)

Rest on the Sabbath (as we all should)

Start on Memorial day and end on Labor day.

It’s that simple. four easy bodyweight exercises. Do I know if this will help build strength? No. Have I consulted an expert or the internet on if this viable? No. Am i stubborn enough to complete this? I hope so.

Any and all are welcome to join my pointless crusade. I intend to keep a log of this effort here.

Total Stats at time of writing:

60 Air Squats

40 Pushups

20 Pull ups

10 Burpees

2 Days
