“A drum with no head.
A pump with no grip.
A song with no voice.
Still, it is mine.
Still, it is mine.”
From the Wheel of Time. Attributed to a Shienaran poet and quoted by Moiraine Sedai if I remember correctly? Strangely a favorite poem of mine. Years after I read the series this few lines would pop into my head. It’s funny how something small and “unnecessary” in something larger can leave such an imprint.
These small things are important. Everyone gets the big picture. That’s the point of text books and histories and biographies. Ours are works of fiction. Where its the little pieces are the ones that stick.
