I scuttled as quickly as I could manage in the middling gravity and squeezed into the maintenance shaft. I began working with the controls to open the locking mechanism across from me. In my hurry I graced the wrong button… the lock directly below me snapped open and I fell into the main corridor. The sound of my falling alerting my pursuers.
“There he is!” Several uniformed organics turned in their magnetized boots while I flailed wildly to get out of sight. It was like some bad dream, the one where’d you couldn’t move from the monster.
A horrible shock came. A sensation like freezing rods screeched through my limbs and forced them to full extension. My vocal cords sizzled with agony but all I could produce was an airy whimper. Something clamped onto my back and I was magnetized down to the floor, the back of my head slamming against the deck. The pain subsided from the stun blast but the feeling of the rods remained, I was now a scare crow at the mercy of the crows.
A helmeted organic in orange accented fatigues knelt down next to me, he was holding the gun that stunned me. He spoke in a sharp insect-like tongue, the lingua converter working to tell me what he said.
“Well Mr. Schultz, today is your lucky day.” The gangster said, tapping the gun against his knee. “I thought I had this thing set to kill.”
